QUOTE (Jeff @ Aug 9 2010, 07:31 PM)
It's only a matter of time until Bruton tears down Infineon and turns it into a 1.5 Mile, Intermediatly banked Tri-Oval anyways. All it really gets now if Nascar and Indy Car, which both run on Ovals, and NHRA, but the Drag Strip obviously wouldn't go. Bruton would destroy and Oval before a Drag Strip apparently.

The thing that pisses me off is Bruton has control of anything. He running NHRA into the ground with his 4 way racing bullshit. He's doing the same to Nascar for about 15 years so thats nothing new though.

It's not all Bruton's fault. You've got to put some blame on NASCAR...I mean ISC for doing the same thing.

I can't wait until July 9, 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

Yeah, I like Drag Racing, but that 4 wide stuff is just over-doing it.

I don't watch drag racing a lot but the 4-wide is interesting, but I think it's great for 1 event per year.

Completely agree. Its way too hard to follow. Its tough enough to watch a 2 car race, but 4 its all just a blur, and as a fan your being cheated out of 2 rounds completely.

Oh well. Politics happen in every sport, it is just unfortunate that it is so easy for two corporations to take over all the venues.

I think Nascar is going through what Baseball had in the 50's and 60's.

(realize, I only know small bits of baseball history because my dad's side of the family is huge into baseball)

Back then, the big thing was closed domes that held 60k - 70k people, seats were empty, everyone was tired of them, and they cost way to much to build and keep up. They eventually found that outdoor stadiums that held around 30k - 40k where much better, it gave people new scenery for each field (outdoor, or city background) and sell outs became completely normal.

they backed off, found what people liked, and stopped adding seats when bigger events were held.

Right now, NASCAR, Bruton, ISC, etc, LOVE the <Mile tracks, and as many damn seats as possible. Result? it's getting old, only a couple are worth it anymore, and seats just keep getting added to them. Result? empty seats.

Most Nascar tracks hold anywhere from 100k - 200k seats, I mean, holy sh*t, really? Does Cali really need seats so high up? or all the way across the entire from stretch? same with Michigan, Charlotte, Texas, etc.

Honestly, the tracks are too big. Increasing the amount of cars on track might help some, keep a cap amount like we have now, but if only 45 cars show up, is it worth it to send 2 guys home?

The cars break up so much on bigger tracks, and the racing gets stale. The speed is cool, I wont lie, but that's why plate tracks are here. Now, I'm not saying "hey, lets not go to any big tracks" I'm saying, back off on some of them, yeah yeah, Atlanta has one date now, in the expense of what? another 1.5 mile intermediately banked tri-oval (no dig on KY intended) but I think the 1.5 milers should all have one date, Cali and Mich have one date, Tona and Dega keep two. then fill in those spots with Mile tracks (cool ones like The Rock or Phoenix, not F**king NHMS) and more short tracks.

Imagine Cup cars at Salem? A half mile Oval banked more then Talladega, seriously, how F**king awesome would that be to see Cup Cars there?

I don't know, I think things will come around, just got to give them time to look at the water marks in their money, and when they don't see one, and realize their only holding One's, they'll makes changes.

I agree, Nascar needs to go to smaller tracks. The only problem, is the current regime is just a bunch of money hungry morons who could give a rats ass if the sport dies.

To use Jeff's example, that was probably the thinking of the common baseball fan back in the 60s. We can only hope that you are wrong and they realize that they owe their wealth to this sport.

Texas is staying in place, with the first race becoming a night race and the first one of the season.
